Hudson River House

Staten Island Apartments

The borough of Staten Island has mixed-use zoning in the St. George district, which allows owners to have commercial tenants in the first floor with residential apartments on the upper floors.  This building suffered fire damage and the developer wanted to maximize the property, therefore we added two more floors to the existing two story building.  The front brick façade was removed and replaced with a large modern window wall system and decks for residents to connect with the street life below.

Mohonk Preserve Visitor Center

The Mohonk Preserve has a mission to protect the Shawangunk Mountains region. The Trapps Gateway Center is the administrative center and visitor orientation experience.  The building was sited for visitors to enjoy the natural beauty of the views of the valley below and for access to the Shawangunk Mountains above.  All building materials and systems were selected and designed to respect the commitment of the Preserve to protect the ecosystem and to promote responsible recreation of the land.  Margaret Garcia worked as the Project Architect with Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership.

Armonk Synagogue

“The B’nai Yisrael Synagogue included a complete redesign of the site plan and architectural design for an expandable sanctuary, social hall, administrative offices, classrooms, and library.  From nearly every vantage point within the building, the natural world remains in view as a constant reminder of creation. Three resonant forms define the building’s volumes and functions, each making reference to the history and values of Judaism. A canopy over the sanctuary evokes the nomadic origins of the Israelites. A wall differentiates the synagogue’s sacred and secular spaces. A round library suggests the centrality of study to Judaism.”  Margaret Garcia worked as the Project Architect with Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership.
